I bought a CD from an artist that has been pushing his music on the block for well over 5 years now. I took it back to the office, placed it in the CD player and waited for over 45 seconds before the music finally kicked in. Once it did start, it sounded distorted and muffled, furthermore there was no contact information on the CD anywhere.
Unsigned Artist! You have to “UP YOUR GAME”, there is one thing to be an unsigned artist, and that is you can be an “Unsigned Professional Artist”. Over look your music before putting your name out there. Make sure your CD starts on cue and that your songs have been mastered for clarity.
Mastering is the fine-tuning and final equalization of the music for broadcast quality status. It can literally separate the hits from the rest of the market. Remember that mastering is not mixing.
Mastering of demos can be an important step in giving an unsigned artist an extra edge over the competition. Ask friends, family and a few unknown faces “How does my music sound?” before all your hard work ends up in the pile next to last years unsigned artist.
Remember to be professional at all times, continue to believe in yourself and stay motivated, because you never know who is listening to your music.
